Hôtel Restaurant le Voilis

We drove across Europe from Canada and stumbled on this hidden gem. I don’t speak French, but the staff were so helpful and spoke English or used an app to communicate. They made us feel welcome all evening and during our stay. The restaurant is a must, and the beach is right outside the door, perfect for morning coffee. Huge thanks to the staff!

The food and setting were great, and the price felt fair. The male waiter was rude and frosty from the start, and kept avoiding eye contact. We nearly walked out. The rest of the staff were lovely.

The location looks good, but that was the one thing I liked. I love French food and service, so I was surprised to see this place ranked fifth on TripAdvisor. Maybe they have a lot of friends. I can't understand the reviews from French people who are usually discerning. The staff were rude and arrogant, and the young male waiters had an attitude. We were paying for family members, so I didn't want to make a scene and spoil the evening. I doubt complaining would have helped anyway. Our desserts arrived 15 minutes apart. They said the ice cream desserts could be served straight away while the others needed heating, and that they had a big table to serve. Why couldn't the ice cream wait, and why should that be the customer's problem? The food was awful. We tried a good range of dishes and pretty much all of it was bad. Three of us shared a seafood platter, which was okay, but by the end most of it was sitting in water from the melting ice. The meat was as tough and unpleasant as sole leather. They even managed to ruin the salad. The ice cream had chunks of ice in it, as if it hadn't been stored properly. The restaurant is attached to a hotel with the same name. We didn't stay there, and if it’s run like the restaurant, we wouldn’t bother.

The only frustrating part was that they didn’t like speaking English. The chef, Ludovic, really tried to communicate with us, though, and we managed to order. He seemed to love his job, which made us feel great. He’s the best chef, and we’re grateful to him 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
