Le Mas Des Sables

Though it's right by the highway, the hotel gives you an immediate country feel. The rooms are set up in little villa-style buildings, and ours was spacious, clean, and looked after properly each day. There’s an outdoor pool with a pleasant terrace, and the staff were lovely and helpful. I'd recommend it.

The accommodation itself was perfect and the staff were very nice, so I'm sorry to give two stars. But dinner at the restaurant was a real letdown. The pasta was sticky and tasteless, with frozen seafood, which just isn't acceptable at this price. We were sick the next day. We won't eat there again or recommend it, and even breakfast is surprisingly expensive at 13€.

We stayed in room No 71, which had a huge bedroom and a terrace looking out at the white Camargue horses. The hotel has an unusual layout, with extensive, well-kept grounds, and the reception staff were efficient and friendly. The restaurant was superb. It's a short menu, two starters, mains, and desserts, but everything was prepared by an excellent chef and team, with lovely presentation and delicious food. The wines were good too, and the price unbeatable. There's a nice pool, plenty to see nearby, and Aigues Mortes is a pleasant 4.5 km walk along the canal.

The food was to die for, and the staff were both professional and friendly. The hotel is easy to find just outside Aigues Mortes, arranged as several small buildings around the bar and dining area. I'd certainly recommend it to travellers.
