The room layout worked well for us, with a wardrobe separating the double bed from the kids’ bunks and giving us some privacy. Our daughter loved the friendly, energetic children’s animateurs, and there was lots of entertainment for kids. Food was better than expected, with plenty of choices, some really good dishes, and a fun raclette night. It was great value for the price, and staff were fantastic. English was widely spoken, though some French helped, which seems fair for a French holiday company. The hotel sits beside a blue run down to Montalbert. There’s a baby slope and drag lift nearby for beginners, plus a short piste to the Montalbert Gondola for access to all of La Plagne.

The food was tasty and had a good range of choices. The indoor pool is a little short but fine for splashing about, and the steam room and jacuzzi were decent. This hotel seems to mainly serve domestic travellers. It’s right by a great nursery slope and a blue run that leads into the centre. A very good stay overall.

There were some real problems for us. The ski equipment shop had a long line, and the activity staff didn’t speak English. We asked for a room overlooking the pistes but got an ice wall right outside instead. At the restaurant, I still haven’t seen any real meat. If you don’t speak French or like meat, don’t come.

Montalbert is a tiny spot at the far end of La Plagne, though the lifts connect it well enough to explore the whole ski area. The resort itself is small, with room for about 300 guests. You’re right by the slopes: the piste is about 10 metres from the ski room and the first lift is around 20 metres away. Phone reception is almost nonexistent and the WiFi is so weak we could barely download an email. That might suit some people, but most other parts of La Plagne have coverage, and there’s free WiFi in the main areas.

The food in the restaurant smelled really bad, and the plates and cutlery were dirty. The service was poor, the rooms were tiny, and they weren’t cleaned.
