Campagne Valerie

We had booked the bungalow for a week, but left after just 2 nights. My wife and I had a disagreement with Mr Pont about using the a/c, oven, and outdoor lights. Our host threatened to cut the power overnight. With a 3-month-old baby, that was a very difficult situation. His yelling and mocking my French still gives me the creeps.

We wanted a quiet place to unwind, and Campagne Valerie turned out to be just right for our 2-week stay. The house has a big window door that opens onto a full view of the beautiful garden. Rose and Jean-michel, the owners, were very kind and hospitable. They also offer cooking classes and table d'hotes featuring local ingredients and recipes. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a getaway in nature and beautiful provence.

I don’t usually post negative reviews, but the very positive ones made me feel I should share how our stay went. We didn’t know the pool closed at 6 pm, which was disappointing when we wanted to spend the day out and cool off there afterward. That information should be in the listing. The pool itself was a letdown too: there were shards of glass on the bottom, and my 8-year-old cut his foot. Once we found out, the owners made no attempt to fix the problem. The filtration system also didn’t work properly and pushed dirt and algae back into the water while we were swimming, so we got out as quickly as we’d gone in. The day after we arrived, the Wi-Fi disappeared and stayed unavailable for the whole week, which also meant we couldn’t watch television. The air conditioning barely worked, about as well as a fan. We felt watched throughout our stay, and unfortunately won’t be coming back.

Jean-Michel and Rose prepared an excellent meal for us, which was a lovely bonus. The cottage is fully equipped, peaceful, and very close to Aix-en-Provence. We were welcomed warmly, and I highly recommend Campagne Valerie for a stay.
