Le Mas Des Ecureuils

We stayed in one of the bungalows, a single large room with a bathroom and shower. The continental breakfast was good, and the rustic restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. Everything feels small and charming: there's a handsome main building, a couple of bungalows, a pool and restaurant on the top level, and a little play area below them, with the gravel parking lot at the bottom. The hotel is close to town, though its position on a wooded hill makes it feel secluded.

The staff were friendly, but we only managed to get through one night here on our way to the airport. The whole place felt dirty, rundown and outdated. Our room had a constant sweaty smell, dirty cups and spoons, three big cobwebs on the ceiling, and three dirty light fixtures with mismatched color temperatures. Pipes in the bathroom gave off another unpleasant smell. The door was thin and insecure, with keyholes on both sides, a fire escape hazard, and we could hear everything outside. The pool was cloudy and uninviting. Outside, the restaurant area looked slapdash, with faded exercise bikes, broken lights, discarded bikes and random privacy screens. The rooms and buildings were ugly and dated. If this counts as three stars, those stars must be from a long time ago. I've stayed in derelict roadside motels with higher standards, and wouldn't come back.

The restaurant had excellent food and a really pleasant atmosphere. The hotel itself was cosy, and the staff were warm and attentive. Julie is a jewel, thanks so much for her warmth and for the French lessons!

The staff were welcoming, and the hotel is nicely situated, tucked away in the Provencial forest. Some of the rooms feel a bit dated.
