I had a good overnight stay and could see the care put into the decor, but a few things would keep me from coming back. The TV only offers French channels or Netflix. I usually connect my laptop by HDMI, but the system won't detect an outside input, and after five minutes an unremovable screensaver with the hotel's name appears. I also couldn't charge an EV with CCS2, even with a parking space, which surprised me given that it's the European standard. And while international calls may not matter to everyone, I need them for security checks with some old-school businesses, especially banks. Most four-star hotels offer that option.

The breakfast was excellent, and the hotel was clearly well cared for. I was here for one business night, and the friendly staff were helpful throughout. I never had to wait around for anyone or anything. I'd happily recommend it.

The newly decorated rooms have a contemporary look and views of the surrounding streets. I stayed for two nights on a Viking tour. Breakfast was overwhelming, though I wasn't impressed by the dinner. It took a while to work out the lighting, and at bedtime the main choice seemed to be having no lights on. They also had trouble with my credit card and blamed the machine. It still wouldn't take the card the next morning, even though I'd used it throughout the trip. Thankfully my wife's card worked.

We walked to all the sights, and the train station was close too. The hotel was lovely and well maintained, with stylish finishes and nicely equipped rooms. We had a great stay and enjoyed both the restaurant and the pool.

The staff were amazing, and the on-site garage made parking easy. Book a space early since they fill up. We really enjoyed the Grand Hôtel Roi René Aix-en-Provence, especially its location, just a short walk from the main city strip.
