Hotel Alencon

The breakfast was mediocre, though the person serving it on October 26 was friendly. On October 25, the noon receptionist said the restaurant was open, but it was closed to the public. We appreciated Mr. Frank’s help finding a restaurant in Alençon and trying to find us a taxi, though there were no taxis available in the evening. When we asked to speak with the manager, we were told he wasn’t there. The hotel is dirty and very old, with no restaurant, and shouldn’t be in the Mercure range. As regular Accor hôtels clients, we’re amazed the Alençon hotel still carries the Mercure name. Shame. John de Jager.

The hotel was easy to reach from Autoroute 28, and there’s a super restaurant next door, open from 19:30 to 21:30. We’ve stayed twice, most recently in July 2008. Both times the staff were pleasant, the room was very clean and functional, and the price was cheap. I’ve just booked another stay.

A pleasant bar in the hotel and quiet rooms made for a nice stay. It was cheap, quick and easy, with a very helpful, nice concierge. There’s a big supermarket across the street and a decent Chinese buffet around the corner. Loved it.

We skipped breakfast, but the free parking, spotless room and bed with two pairs of pillows were all perfect. The welcome was friendly, and they patiently tried to understand my flawed French.
