Our booking wasn’t recognised by the automated system, so we had to call the helpline to get access to our room keys. On a cold night, the wait left us freezing by the time we got inside, and things went downhill from there. The room was supposed to be non-smoking but stank of cigarettes. The bed was clean, but it didn’t fit the room well: there were only a few centimetres of space on one side, and moving it would have blocked the power sockets. One bedside light had no bulb. The blackout blind was filthy. The toilet flush controls were broken off, the mirror was off the wall and just propped up with wires to the light exposed, and the shower head holder was broken, so I had to hold the shower head myself.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, the rooms clean, and breakfast was good. It’s a cheap hotel, handy for an overnight stop while travelling. The hot water in room 18 still needs sorting, though.

I’ve stayed at Premier Class hotels many times, but this one was awful. The place smelled bad and everything looked dirty. There wasn’t even a light in the bathroom. When I first went to reception to book, nobody was there, only some women cleaning. After waiting half an hour, I tried the machine outside. It took my money but didn’t give me an access key. Someone eventually came to the desk, but they didn’t speak English. I managed to explain what had happened and got a room. I also asked for a receipt, but they said they couldn’t provide one then and told me to come back in the morning.

It felt unsafe enough that I’d rather sleep in my car than stay here again. Men crowded the shared areas, smoking, shouting, and watching people. The hotel was dirty and smelled awful, of stale air and tobacco. Clothes hanging in the windows made it seem more like people lived there, or like a refugee centre, than a hotel. I wouldn’t set foot inside again.

Room 109 was clean, and the staff welcomed me warmly. I’d read so many reviews beforehand that I was quite nervous about arriving, but it turned out to be a very good cheap place for a quick shower and sleep, especially for backpackers or anyone travelling on a budget. You get the standard you’d expect for the price, and the hotel does need plenty of repairs. That didn’t bother me while I was sleeping. Refugees might make noise early in the morning, though I was up early anyway.
