The Originals Boutique, Hotel Le Kastelberg

The hotel is nice and the location is convenient, not far from Obernai. It had recently been renovated, but the toilet air vent was broken, and by evening the toilet was full of ladybirds. We called management, but nobody offered to move us. They just came and vacuumed the insects, and some were back in the toilet the next morning. The Wi-Fi didn't work in our room or in the breakfast room, and the curtains did little to keep the morning light out. What disappointed me most was that management did nothing to address the problems. At checkout they didn't even apologize. They just said it was normal because we're in the countryside, though a broken air vent isn't normal. Sometimes a small gesture can make all the difference.

Breakfast and dinner were good, and the room was comfortable. The setting is lovely too. From a room at the back, you can wake up looking out over the vineyards and village. I’d recommend it, just ask for a room away from the road. :-)

We only came for dinner, and it was a wonderful meal. The restaurant looks out over the vineyards as you arrive in Andlau. We tried some Alsatian classics and enjoyed them. Even the Dijon mustard with the bread was amazing, with quite a kick.

We were there for one night with a group of bikers. The drivers had a very unfriendly welcome, and the garage for the bikes was only accepted after we negotiated, even though that had already been agreed by email. Everyone can have a bad day, but you only make a first impression once. The hotel is well situated in Andlau and was otherwise okay. The rooms were spacious, though the bathroom felt rather outdated.
