Logis St Joseph

Marie, the owner, was warm, welcoming, and always smiling. My son and I only stayed one night, but we felt very well looked after. We got messages that walked us through the check-in process, and the studio was clean, well equipped, and in an ideal location. Breakfast was generous and made with high-quality products. We'd gladly come back, maybe for more than one night next time.

The location is the only real plus. This is a guesthouse, not a hotel, with no bike storage, so it won't work if, like us, you're in Angers to cycle the Loire. There's no staff contact, everything is handled by email and access codes. Breakfast was already waiting in the room when we arrived, so don't expect fresh bread or pastries. There's no proper table either, and we ended up eating in bed.

We were very disappointed. Le Logis St Joseph isn't a B&B, it's a gîte, with no reception. Access codes arrive early in the afternoon, and that's when we learned breakfast for the next day would be waiting in the kitchen. We chose the place late, expecting breakfast served by a hostess. There were no croissants or hot coffee. The coffee was cold and bottled, the bread was stale, day-old sandwich bread, and there wasn't a toaster. There was also a rather unconvincing homemade cake. We'll manage, but no, this wasn't what we expected.

Marie looked after us so well, kind and attentive, and we felt like proper guests. The room was superb, clean, heated, fully equipped, and had very comfortable bedding. It's peaceful and just a stone's throw from the city center. Breakfast was a lovely extra, with plenty of fresh choices, including homemade items. We will very likely return.
