The staff were really friendly, breakfast was really good, and the hotel is in a great location. The rooms are starting to show their age a bit, but that didn't take away from a very comfortable stay or the overall great experience.

The staff were nice, and the room was soundproof, but I was disappointed by a few things. The TV only had French channels, with no way to watch anything else. Even the smallest hotels I've stayed in have had a smart TV. Breakfast was also one of the most limited I've had, with no variety at all, and definitely wasn't worth 17.9€.

The room was cold all night, despite the heater being on max for more than two hours. After I'd been at the desk for about 30 minutes to complain, a friendly staff member agreed that it could take a while to warm up. When I returned from a local restaurant and it was still cold, the check-out lady came up, confirmed the problem, and brought me a portable oil radiator. That's unacceptable for a four-star hotel. The room also had two mattresses at different heights, with a crack and a wide gap between them, a real problem if you have back pain. There was no mini bar, and the TV only had French channels, which are awful to watch because everything is dubbed. The shower cabin was very narrow, the ceiling was gaping, and the room felt dark and oddly used. Its old carpet was very worn, damp, and moist. The smell in the supposedly fresh room was overwhelming too, a mix of Dettol antiseptic spray and strong herbal fragrances that made it unpleasant to sleep in. Even breakfast was mediocre. There was a bath towel on the floor in the middle of the breakfast room, and nobody picked it up. The dark, creepy hallway looked like something straight out of ''the shining'' or a cheap red light district hotel in Amsterdam. This didn't feel like a four-star place, more like two, if even that. It felt like a scam when there are much nicer hotels for the same price. Mercure needs to step up its game and renovate or close the hotel. It's so passe and decrepit.

The hotel's location was good, the room was a decent size, and breakfast had fresh orange juice. The art choices, an ‘abandoned piano’ and ‘New York city skyline’, also struck me as odd for a hotel in Angers. I stayed two days on a work trip, and my colleagues and I all had a poor experience. The Wi-Fi was hard to get onto because it uses an open network with a pop-up to accept the terms and conditions. That page often wouldn't appear on any of our phones or laptops, so we couldn't connect. When it did work, the Wi-Fi was slow and the signal in the rooms was weak, around two bars. It was hard to work, and we ended up using our phone hotspots. My shower didn't work, so I could only take baths, and I was late to a meeting on my first day. There were no irons for me to use, so I had to make do with a hairdryer as an iron. The air conditioning kept getting too cold when switched on, and the mattress was too hard for me to sleep well. Breakfast had few hot vegetarian options, and I don't know what vegans are meant to do. When I complained at checkout, the staff member seemed not to care, just shrugged and offered no apology.
