Centre Jean Xxiii

Breakfast was very good, with lots of tasty, nourishing food and drinks. The receptionist was pleasant and friendly, though that was the only hospitality we really felt. There were no welcoming smiles or interaction in the dining room. We also had to spend a couple of hours at a laundromat in the city because there were no laundry machines, time we could have spent doing something fun. We were there for two weekday nights in late August on a family vacation. The place was pretty good value, but knowing what we know now, we’d have looked at other options. The location is fairly close to the lake and the old town attractions, with a nice view of the valley and lake from the balcony and dining room. Having parking was convenient. The building looks like a modern apartment block outside and an office inside. It felt plain and almost utilitarian, with nothing luxurious or cozy for a vacation, and little of Annecy’s charm. The small framed photos didn’t add much. Our room worked well for four, but the mattresses were too firm. The windows don’t open, and the balcony sliding door has no screen. The bathroom was fine, though the sink was too high for a child. As in many French hotels, there was shampoo and soap but no lotion. There was no night light or adapter for US plugs, so bring your own. The WiFi wasn’t password protected.
