Hôtel de Savoie

We gave up and found somewhere else for 140 euro, a much better place, and didn't get a refund. It was hard to even find the entrance at first. Inside, the building felt crooked enough to make us uncomfortable, and the structure seemed to be falling apart. The hallways were narrow, complicated, and extremely humid. Our three-person room was hot and damp, with a sloping floor and poor ventilation. We left the windows open for an hour, but came back to the same stuffy room because they faced a courtyard surrounded by restaurants and their kitchen heat. Doors slammed easily, and the toilet door was broken. The whole place was in such bad shape that I wondered if it should legally be used as accommodation. If you like a haunted-looking hotel and bad surprises, this is for you.

For the price and location, it was surprisingly comfortable. The room was a decent size, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was excellent. The owner was friendly and very helpful. The place is dated and could be cleaner, but that seemed about right for a building over 100 years old. It's a converted convent attached to the church. I nearly skipped it because of the low reviews, but I'm glad we stayed. I'd recommend it if you don't mind an older place.

The owner was quirky but helpful, and we couldn't check in until 16.00. Our room was on the top floor, 4, with no view apart from the church through a small window. It was hot, though there was a fan, and the loft layout meant watching your head and feet as you moved around. The hotel entrance is through the church, right in the middle of the old town action. The canal is only a few metres away, then the lake, with heaps of bars and restaurants just outside. Despite that, our room wasn't noisy.

The staff are really nice, and the location is excellent, close to both the lake and old town. It's a two-star hotel, and in late July we paid 90 some euros a night for a tiny room with no canal view. That also meant it was quiet at night.
