The ivy and old exterior give this hotel a quaint look, and the Jura town around it is gorgeous. That’s the one thing I liked. Inside, the place is run down and poorly maintained. The rooms are tiny and dirty, with disgusting carpet that needs replacing. Some soap dispensers were empty, and the ones with soap seemed watered down, maybe to save money. The beds are very small, though comfortable. Street-facing rooms are noisy enough to make sleeping difficult. Breakfast was worthless: the croissants were rock hard, they ran out of food for guests, and refused to bring out more. The staff are rude and act as if they hate everyone. I’ve travelled extensively around Europe, and this is the worst hotel I’ve come across. Book somewhere else!

We enjoyed Arbois and the Jura region, which is beautiful and full of welcoming people. Sadly, this hotel wasn't like that. The place itself is a charming, typical French hotel, nothing fancy but about what you'd expect. My only other impression was the manager/receptionist, who was hostile and aggressive on several occasions. When my mom's card was declined for some reason, the manager repeatedly asked, “Why did you take out the card?” and accused her of trying to cheat. We were shocked. She seems to assume everyone is out to hurt her, and doesn't come across as wanting repeat customers or recommendations. What this hotel needs is a welcoming manager.

For a good price, you get an old-school hotel in a perfect spot in charming Arbois, with around 3,300 people. It's in the heart of the world-class Jura wine region, with some of Europe's greatest forests nearby. To anyone concerned by earlier reviews, give the receptionist/manager a chance and treat them with respect, and you'll be pleased.

What really made this hotel stand out was the owner, who was super friendly and truly unique. The location is fantastic, the rooms are clean, and breakfast is great. Such a great hotel.
