Villa Les Ombrees

We spent six nights at Villa Les Ombrees in August. It’s an impressive Belle Epoque house in a very quiet residential area, but our family suite was in the basement and quite dark. Being an old house, it also got damp in the suite, especially when it rained. This might suit people staying one or two nights who value the hosts’ guidance and are comfortable with a co-living setup. It wasn’t right for us, with normal hotel expectations. The host had firm views about how everything should be run. We asked that she not open all the windows after cleaning because our daughter is allergic to mosquito bites. She asked why, saying mosquitoes only come in when the light is on. We still had lots of them in the apartment every day. Getting towels changed after a few days meant negotiating. There are usually two toilets in the family suite, but one was already broken before we arrived. The only one left was in a cramped hall stall where your knees literally touch the door when you sit, so it was almost unusable unless you left the door open. The host explained but didn’t apologize or offer compensation. We put a chair by our daughter’s bed because she tends to fall out at night without a barrier, and the hostess removed it. When we asked, she replied, “Your daughter is nine and falls out of bed?” It went on from there. We felt more like we were visiting opinionated in-laws than staying in a bed and breakfast or hotel. I’d understand that more if this were a family estate open to guests, but the hosts recently bought the property to set up a bed and breakfast.

The beach is just steps away, and the town center is a 10-15 minute walk. We spent two nights at Villa Les Ombrées and really recommend it. It’s a beautiful, tastefully decorated and well-kept house with a terrace and garden. The rooms are large and bright, the hosts are very kind, and they served a fresh homemade breakfast on the terrace. Thanks again for such a lovely stay!

The breakfast was incredible, with homemade products of great quality, and the hosts gave us invaluable tips for visiting this beautiful region. We had a wonderful stay at the villa during our visit to Arcachon and received a very warm welcome. The "Chambre des Pins" is magnificent and looked just like the photos on their website. The room was spotless, with a spacious bathroom and bedroom decorated with great taste. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!
