The decor is old, but it makes the place feel cosy, and the staff are friendly. The restaurant is great too. What disappointed me was the management and the lack of care for guests. I told the staff yesterday that the shower support in my room, 301, was broken. It was still broken today. They offered to move me, but I’m leaving tomorrow and was too tired to change rooms.

The basic hotel itself was great, but the thing I’ll remember from the weekend is the appalling service from reception and the manager. I’ve travelled a lot and know that customs and service vary, but the manager seemed to despise the guests who were paying to stay there. The welcome was the least friendly I’ve had anywhere in the world. We checked in at the stated time and got a long list of things we weren’t allowed to do, along with the news that there would be no food at all on Sundays after breakfast. Don’t try to check in at another time, or you’ll face a barrage of abuse. If I’d been able to cancel and get a refund, I would have left on the spot, even if it meant sleeping in a car. I wouldn’t stay here under the current management.

There’s plenty of parking, and breakfast is included and pleasant. The room was very decent for the price in this area. I would have liked a warmer welcome from the evening staff, and unfortunately the kitchen closes early.

The rooms and facilities are basic but fine. The owner/manager is the reason I’d tell people to stay away. She seemed to hate having guests, and the weekend was full of shouting and rules. I booked this hotel for the etape 2018 because it described itself as a cyclists hotel. I left and paid double to stay elsewhere, but my two friends stayed and had a weekend from hell. They were told not to talk in the corridors, wear cycling shoes inside, cross the empty, closed outdoor restaurant, ask for food after Sunday breakfast, or spend more than two minutes in the bike store. At another hotel closer to the lake, I had a great weekend with staff who understood they were looking after paying guests. The food there was fantastic. When we tried to talk back, she shouted that she didn’t understand and walked off. Maybe her many rules could have seemed like obsessive behavior if they’d been asked politely, but instead she screamed at guests and barked orders. When we went to the bike store, we were yelled at for taking the wrong way, even though signs said not to go either way. We were also screamed at for standing on the grass while assembling the bikes, then again because we might be in the way of a wheelchair guest, though there wasn’t a wheelchair in sight. Earlier, at 1:30 PM, she said reception was closed until 3. We thought we’d have lunch at the hotel first, but while we were looking at menus without a waiter, she yelled at us to wait. The waiter then said the restaurant was closed, even though it was half full of people eating. We went elsewhere for lunch and came back after 3, only to find the same manager sitting at reception. I’d assumed she was just minding it earlier, but she simply hadn’t wanted to check us in because reception was officially closed. This woman is in the wrong industry. NEVER EVER EVER stay here unless you’re very, very desperate!
