Hotel du Mas de la Chapelle

The people working here were fantastic. Every interaction was pleasant, and we really appreciated that. The place has a striking character, with African touches, castle-like interiors, and a large garden. Breakfast was generous and very good. Our room, though, was very disappointing for the price and nowhere near what I'd expect from a 4-star hotel. The bathroom had retractable plastic curtains and very old pipes and taps. The room curtains looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages, so we didn't want to touch them. The garden may have been lovely once, but it isn't maintained now. Dirty ponds were breeding loads of mosquitoes. For what we paid, this wasn't a good deal.

The grounds were beautiful, with statues, fountains, koi ponds, wisteria, and other flowering trees and plants. We enjoyed walking around the property in the morning, and the whole place felt charming and romantic. Our Indian room was lovely, and the breakfast was a delicious French spread with pastries, bread, cheeses, meats, jams, milk, juice, and coffee. We only had one night, which felt far too short. I'd go back to Arles just to stay here again. Andrea was still there to greet us when we arrived around 8:30 pm, even though we'd been told reception closed at 8. We'd received a text with the gate and room instructions for a later arrival, but she was waiting for us anyway, walked us through everything, and gave us a little tour. She also marked a map of Arles with parking spots and good places to eat. She was so sweet, and we really appreciated her help. Two lovely German shepherds came to say hello too, and we adored the cat. We'd recommend this relaxing, romantic bed and breakfast to couples.

A lovely, quirky estate style hotel just outside Arles. It feels like a boutique place to get away, with beautiful landscaping and extensive gardens, about 6 hectares from what I was told. There's a big pool beside the house, tucked away in a secluded spot, and a spa I didn't try. This isn't a Best Western or Hilton, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

The pool is great, the gardens are huge, and breakfast is an amazing, generous spread. Our room was clean and comfortable. But the shared areas were grubby and hadn't been swept, and the stone features need cleaning. The air conditioning was noisy, and the toilet had a cheap plastic seat. The photos seem old, because the place looks tired and needs a facelift. It could be a fabulous getaway, but poor upkeep lets it down. The guest rooms are in separate chalets, so it doesn't really feel like a hotel. It no longer seems like a 4-star place, and the price is too high for what you get.
