This well-kept three-story home puts you right in the middle of everything, around the corner from the Arena and the Roman amphitheater, which dates to 90 a.d. and is still in use. It's also the town Van Gogh painted some famous works in. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a decent-sized refrigerator, and there's a washer for clothes. A spiral staircase goes up to the master bedroom and bath, then to two rooms on the third floor with good views. Entry was easy, and communication from the host was excellent. Don't miss this house. One note: people over 6ft2in may not enjoy the stairs to the third floor.

We loved having breakfast in the courtyard, and the location was amazing. The instructions were clear, the fans helped keep the house cool, and we appreciated all the thoughtful details and everything provided.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at la Maison des Hautures. The apartment is lovely and right in the heart of town, and Michel is a great host. The ground-floor kitchen is well equipped even for a longer visit, and the courtyard is a welcome extra space in the warmer months, from late March to early oktober. The master bedroom on the third floor is comfortable, though the restroom isn't closed off. On the second floor there's a nice living room that sleeps 2-3 people, and the top-floor patio looks out over the roofs of Arles. The Arena of Arles is just a stone's throw away, with the lively downtown a little farther on, full of good food and some culture. There are pleasant short walks along the Rhone. Mediterranean beaches are a 40-minute drive away. You can also rent a bike at the trainstation, where parking is free. Arles is quiet off season, but there's an excellent outdoor market on wednesdays and saturdays. The restaurants are good and honest, and the local wine is very good.
