La Maison Volver

Maison Volver worked perfectly for us, even though Arles itself wasn’t really my favorite. The hotel is well placed, and we could walk to the cruise boat dock with our luggage. The staff were so helpful, the rooms were spotless, and they’re small but cleverly laid out with modern fixtures. The bedroom could use more light, and there weren’t any tissues, but those were minor things. We had a nice, light dinner at the restaurant. Even after it closed, the staff brought us wine glasses and let us sit in the cafe area. I’d definitely recommend Maison Volver for a stay in Arles.

The restaurant has a really good range of food, although its prices are way up at the edge of what feels reasonable. I know this is a popular place, but after living in southern France for 20 years, I’m still shocked at what things cost around Arles’ tourist spots. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, with elegant decor, but they’re on the small side and fairly basic.

The staff were great about arranging spa days at nearby day spas and calling restaurants for us, since our French wasn’t very strong. The bathroom layout was surprisingly practical, too, and the renovated rooms had lovely soft, warm lighting. One heads-up about the bedding: it’s all linen. It breathes well and stays cool, but it isn’t as smooth as cotton. I like linen sheets, though my partner didn’t.

It’s a charming old-school place, with a small front desk team who make you feel like an honored guest and really care about your stay. The location is great, right at the beginning of a pedestrian area with lots of places you can reach on foot. Our room was a decent size by French standards. I’d definitely return.
