This year we rented the hotel loft, a self-catering suite that worked well for us as a couple with a big dog. The kitchen is small but adequate, with a big fridge and a microwave/oven/grill. We also made use of the courtyard pool, sheltered from the winds at this time of year. The village has good food shopping. We've previously stayed in the smaller, cheaper rooms, which were comfortable and stylish. The staff are friendly, and breakfast is delicious. That fresh soft-boiled egg with a piece of baguette and butter took me straight back to childhood. It's one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in.

Right in the center of Ars en Re, this little hotel is clean and tidy, and bigger inside than it looks from the outside. There's a garage for bikes too. Highly suggested, we'll be back!

You can get around without renting a car if you're keen on biking, though having one gives you more options for exploring, especially for dinner in nearby towns and visiting different beaches. Parking is conveniently down the street, and check-in and check-out were a breeze. The staff were accommodating and breakfast was great. We stayed in this charming, well-run hotel in a quaint town, next to Eglise Saint Etienne. One suite looked out at the cathedral, the other at the lovely pool.

We were five guests from Greece, keen to discover French cuisine, and the accommodation was great. The gourmet menu was a real experience, served by very friendly staff. The chef was happy to answer any questions about the menu personally. Thank you for the experience 🙏🏻

The lounging area is a lovely spot to meet people and make new friends in the evening, with complimentary tea and coffee. Breakfast is worth having, and there's a small pool for an evening swim, plus a restaurant next door. The hotel itself has a well-kept rustic style, and the friendly, helpful women on the team made us feel welcome. Hotel Sénéchal is a charming place at 6 Rue Gambetta, right in the heart of Ars-en-Ré. The village is a delight for photographers and explorers, and this is definitely where I'd stay on the island.
