Logis Hôtel-Restaurant Le Moulin D'Artres

For the amount of money we paid, I expected more from a Logis hotel, especially after the website and Booking.com. The whole place felt amateurish. The stairs up to the rooms are extremely steep and slippery, which makes them unsuitable for dogs. That was a big letdown because we’d booked specifically after asking to bring our dog. There’s no restaurant on site either. The other Logis restaurant by the church is a 10-minute uphill walk away, and in 30°C heat, no thanks. Breakfast is in the room, with most of it already in the fridge when you arrive. There were lots of small care issues: dusty skirting boards and under the bed, an empty tissue box, and a coffee machine still full of the previous guest’s used capsules. We had only two bath towels and had to ask for more. Six cushions couldn’t be washed and were unusable, and the bedspread went straight onto the floor. I don’t understand why hotels do that. There was limescale on the bathroom taps that I could rub off with my finger. The kettle only heats to 90°, so it’s no use for the supplied English breakfast tea, as any fule kno. I found instructions for two different WiFi networks, and neither worked. There was no full-length mirror.

David is a very good host, and I’d recommend staying for an interesting, truly French experience. I loved sharing the evening meal at one table with such an eclectic mix of French people. The food was OK, though nothing special. The room was lovely and large, if a bit tired, and the hotel has so much character. This is France, after all.

The evening meal is a chambre d'hotes / soirées etapes experience, with everyone gathered around a couple of large tables. It’s a set three-course menu, delicious and generous, with well-chosen wines. Breakfast is now brought to the room since covid: goodies are left outside, alongside the big spread already in the fridge. Another wonderful overnight stay in a relaxed, beautiful setting. We had two rooms on the ground floor of a separate building. They were quite dark and smelled damp.
