Ascain makes a lovely base for exploring: there are walking trails nearby, and the village has a grocery shop, a great bakery, cafés, bars, and restaurants. A number of charming little villages are also only 10-40 minutes away by car. We had a small studio with a kitchenette, and both it and the hotel grounds were clean and well kept. The staff were professional and easy to approach, always greeting us with a smile. We’d happily come back.

The room was in a disappointing state. There were signs of ordinary wear, but also what looked like neglect and poor construction. I found a piece of ham on the table, and there were urine drops on both the bathroom floor and toilet seat. I booked the same day, so I can’t tell whether the room hadn’t been cleaned or someone had rushed through it. I’d been encouraged by the reviews, but this was the worst hotel experience I’ve had.

We’ve had a lovely stay each time we’ve been here. The hotel is cosy and beautiful, and breakfast is amazing. Thanks for looking after us, we’ll be back.

For the price they charge, breakfast doesn’t offer much choice, so I’d skip it. The rooms are clean and have a little kitchen area, and it’s a nice hotel in a small village.

We arrived late, and the staff gave us all the instructions we needed to check in. Such a lovely, quiet place, with clean rooms and nice people.
