The room was comfortable, and breakfast was good. Check-in was quick and automatic at the car park gate. Staff were friendly when they were around.

The patio gets plenty of sun, and our room was spacious. Staff were friendly, the car park was large and secure, and the place felt comfortable for the price, though a bit worn. There was no way to make tea or coffee, and the patio door had no ventilation setting, so we had to leave it open all night. The shower was good, but be gentle with the faucet or water ends up all over the floor. Asnelles itself isn’t the prettiest Normandy village, and restaurants have limited opening hours. The patisserie is lovely, though.

We spent five days here, and the stay didn’t go as we’d expected. The food wasn’t very good: the noodles we had were cold and burnt, and so hard. Sleeping was difficult too, because the beds were narrow, small, and very uncomfortable. There was only a bathtub rather than a proper shower, and mold along its sides.

Gold Beach is the property’s best feature, since it’s so close. The building itself has good bones, but the rooms weren’t cleaned or maintained to the standard I’d expect. We found heavy dust around the bathroom edges, urine stains in the toilet, and mildew in the tub. I reported it to the front desk, and they said they’d tell housekeeping, but it was never cleaned during our stay. In the family apartment we got the bare minimum: a small packet of dish soap and one roll of toilet paper. At least there was dishware, a small fridge, and bottle and wine openers. The beds and bedding were comfortable, though there were no mattress protectors, which I think should be standard in hotels. It was summer, and like many places in Europe there was no A/C, so the room stayed hot even with the window open. One portable fan wasn’t enough for our family, but after we asked, they gave us another. The Wi-Fi was unreliable. An outdoor hose or shower would help guests rinse off sand before coming back in and clogging the drains. The paid breakfast was okay, with cereal, bread and cake, croissants, ham, coffee, and tea. Fresh fruit and vegetables, plus hard-boiled eggs for people who don’t eat gluten, would have made it better.
