Hotel Le Maxime, BW Signature Collection

We liked the river view from our room and found the front desk staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is fairly modern and just across the street from the river, but we were disappointed by the room. The thermostat had a missing temperature button and was patched with tape. There was good light by the bed, but no overhead light, so the rest of the room was dark. The shower had no hot water on the first morning, worked after we complained on the second, then was cold again on the third. Breakfast was mediocre, with weak coffee, so we went to a wonderful local bakery later.

The room itself was below average. Water pressure was low, the old tables by the window and on top of the fridge looked fragile, and the heater barely worked, leaving the room very cold. If there are better options nearby, I'd choose one. Otherwise, keep expectations low and be careful with your belongings. I stayed from 16 Nov to 17 Nov and left a ring on the table next to the coffee machine when I checked out. I called the hotel two hours later, but they said they couldn't find it. The room locks automatically, and I believe only the cleaner entered after us. I find the situation highly suspicious, though I can't say for sure what happened. The hotel said the cleaner had worked there a long time, but that doesn't mean they didn't take it. I reported it to the police station and hope this warns other guests. Please hide your belongings from the cleaner. Thanks.

The night manager was especially friendly, helpful, and nice to chat with. Our front-facing room had lovely river views, the beds were super comfortable, and the shower had good water pressure. We had a fantastic overnight stop. It's a great location, about a five-minute walk along narrow cobbled streets to the Cathedral and old town. A really good boutique-style hotel, highly recommend.

The room was tiny, though the bathroom had been updated and the king bed seemed fine. It was very clean, and the windows blocked sound really well. Decent value in a nice old hotel right on the river Yonne.
