Hôtel de la Poste à Avallon, Bourgogne

The proprietor really cares about giving guests first-class service, and the staff were helpful and attentive. Everything felt carefully thought through, right down to the beautiful rooms. A rare find, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

There’s a large parking lot behind the hotel, and it’s right in the center, near lots of shops and restaurants. The town of Avallon is lovely, and the hotel is worth seeing too. We were sorry to leave so soon. The beds were very comfortable, breakfast was delicious, and the place is beautifully decorated with so much care. The friendly service stood out, especially the owner, Julian, who looks after guests personally and is happy to answer questions and offer tips.

My mother and I had such a good time here in July 2025. We started with cocktails on our first evening, made with fresh, unusual ingredients from the region. I’m still thinking about the abricot français, probably the best drink I’ve ever had. We also shared a colorful, delicious salad and a strawberry tart. The bar décor is worth a look too, Mr. Cohen did a beautiful job with it. The next morning we chose the lighter continental breakfast, since we had lunch booked at “ le 1815”. There was a basket of lovely French pastries, croissants and pain au chocolat, plus homemade yogurt and jams, fresh bread, and mini crepes. My mum had tea, with lots of choices, and I had coffee from a nice machine where you can pick what you want. We visited Mr. Cohen antiques stores afterwards, which is a must see. Then we came back for lunch at their 1815 restaurant. My mother chose the vegetarian menu and I had fish à la carte. Everything was outstanding, and the Kir crémant was so good. There’s still plenty more to see in the region, so we’ll definitely return. It’s only 2h30 from Paris by train.

Comfortable, modern rooms, great food, and so much care in the details. The history adds to the appeal. Definitely a place to stay!
