City Résidence Avignon

The apartment had what we needed for a comfortable one-night stay. The kitchen and bedroom shared one space, with a separate bathroom. It had a stovetop, microwave, fridge, pots, pans, dishes, and cutlery, plus a kettle with tea and coffee. There was a fan, an extra blanket in the cupboard, hangers, towels, and bedside lamps. The bathroom was clean and had toilet paper and a small bottle of shower gel, though we preferred our own products. A broom and duster were there too. You can ask reception for a hairdryer free of charge. Check-in went smoothly. We got a key and an envelope with all the information in our language at reception. Samuel was kind and helpful, and the property has private parking behind the building. There’s a €50 damage deposit at check-in, refunded if there’s no damage. For an early checkout, you can leave the key in the box at the parking gate. A few things weren’t great: the towels smelled like curry, and all the dishes, as well as the dish soap and sponge, smelled like egg. There was very little shower gel. The bed sagged, though it wasn’t too bad, and the linen made us sweat, so you’ll want the fan on or the window open. Still, the welcome was good and the stay was mostly positive. Would recommend!

The room was clean and quiet, and all the amenities worked as advertised. Water pressure in the ensuite was decent. Checking in after hours was easy and contactless. The location is within walking distance of the main sights, about 20 minutes from Palais des Papes, and the price was great. I’d recommend it and would stay again if I’m back in Avignon.

The room gets unbearably hot in warm weather. There’s no air conditioning, which we forgot to check, and the fridge puts out a lot of heat too. We didn’t feel particularly safe outside, and the area isn’t great. There are so many rules that it stopped feeling like a hotel. You have to empty the bins and wash all the dishes yourself or you’ll be fined, and there’s a fine if you lock yourself out. I understand guests should clean up after themselves, but the list of rules and regulations was a lot. It was cheap, and the kitchenette could make it a useful base in cooler weather. I’d consider coming again only if I were on a tight budget.

We were just a short walk from the city center, about 10 minutes, and the place was comfortable and handy. The room was neat and had everything we needed. Clear directions made it easy to get into the parking area and room when we arrived after reception had closed. Would recommend it.
