Hôtel Les Corps Saints

The employee at reception was pleasant to chat with when I checked in, and the room was clean and comfortable. It was on the small side, but the bedding was good quality and the towels were plush. The internet in room 101 was slow. This is a quaint little hotel for travellers after something different at an affordable price. It’s just behind a lovely square, within the walled old city, or intra muros, and close to Avignon-centre train station and the bus stations. The neighbourhood stays very quiet. Reception opens at 07.30 a.m. and closes 12 hours later. There’s no lift, and the staircase is steep, which could be an issue with large or heavy luggage.

The view from the window was charming, and the hotel is very close to the railway station and historic part of the city. The bed was small but comfortable. The room still fell short of basic standards, even for a two-star hotel. The bookshelf was dirty and broken, and so was the hanger. The bathroom walls badly need repainting, there’s no exhaust fan, and the cramped shower had clogged pipes. On my second day, a loud alarm woke me suddenly and blared for at least five minutes. Reception didn’t apologize for the disruption.

The room was clean enough, but sparse, with budget-looking carpets, furniture, and decorations. There’s no air conditioning, so opening the windows was tempting, but flies and mosquitoes from the nearby park made that hard to tolerate. I used the provided fan instead, and it made things cool enough to sleep. The bathroom was quite clean, though cheaply finished like the rest of the facilities. Water pressure and temperature were fine. The city center’s old plumbing means the toilets have built-in waste grinders, so flushing is loud. At 80 euro a night, it wasn’t the worst value I’ve had, but I could have found better if I’d booked ahead.

There are quite a few stairs to reach the room. They were fine for me, but could be difficult if you struggle with stairs or have very heavy bags. The room is narrow but long, just right for a single, with a fridge and kettle that I really appreciated. The air conditioning was lovely after a long day outside. It’s close to both the train station and town, yet on a quiet street. Reception greeted me nicely when I arrived and were helpful.
