Hôtel Médieval

This is a wonderful former Bishop's palace from the 17th century, converted into around 40 rooms. The rooms have been renovated, with everything new, including the paint, carpet, and A/C units, and the new elevator is working. Renovations are still underway as I write this. The new breakfast room is nearly finished and should be beautiful. The staff have been absolutely lovely.

The location and sparse amenities were things I could have lived with. The bed was like a rock, and the wifi was intermittent, but the air in room 24 was the real problem. We left after one night despite being booked for two more. The air circulation and quality made it hard to breathe and ruined my sinuses. I don’t know whether it was the filthy A/C filter or black mold in the shower, on both the tile and wood ceiling, with flecks in the tub. My boyfriend also had breathing problems. The dirty air conditioner made loud intermittent noises throughout the night, so sleep was impossible. I turned it off, but with no air circulation I switched it back on and got a strong mildew smell. At least there was some air moving while I stayed up trying to breathe. Another two nights in that room would have been terrible and potentially dangerous. I’ve never complained about a hotel or left one before. We’d booked room 24, two floors up to the left. The hotel is tired and the amenities are sparse, as other reviews said, but I could tolerate that. I couldn’t tolerate the air. I’m amazed this place has a 4.1 on Google and 4.5 on TripAdvisor. Maybe other rooms were nice, who knows. What we experienced was enough to make us book another hotel. The hotel refused to refund us, saying nobody had ever complained before. I found a Google review with a similar, shorter description, so that was a lie. I don’t know why there aren’t more reviews about the mold and dust. Maybe people don’t use the air conditioner, stay only briefly, or aren’t sensitive to mold or dust. Beware this hotel and room 24. Management replied to my boyfriend’s review saying nobody with his name had stayed there, even though he booked the room and was clearly suffering through the same experience with me. Dishonesty on top of a terrible establishment. Don’t give them your money. EDIT: Don’t believe the property owner. We stayed here, and my memories of it are very clear. This is proof that they lie!

Centrally located, with pleasant staff. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfy and the bathrooms have been nicely updated. The hotel was very clean and updated.

A horrible, disgusting stay. The room was dirty and full of bugs, crawling and flying, so we moved out right away. I emailed the owner and followed up twice, but never got a reply, even after more than a week. They took our money and didn’t bother to answer. The hotel was down a tiny alley where it was impossible to park and unload the luggage. Parking was hard to find, and we had to carry our bags a long way to reach the hotel. A really bad experience.
