Le Recommandé

The bad food here put an end to our run of great meals in France. The croque monsieur was inedible, and I managed just one bite. The chicken Caesar came with lousy bottled dressing. Terrible.

The friendly service and the extensive menu of local champagnes were the bright spots. The building is beautiful, and Le Recommandé could be a lovely bistro, but our visit was a disappointment. Heavy metal blasting from a speaker ruined any chance of a charming French atmosphere. The food was very poor: my risotto smelled and tasted like cat food, and the so-called tapas weren't the small bites you'd expect. It seemed to be canned food warmed in a microwave. Such a shame for Avize, but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

The owner and staff were wonderful hosts, and we loved the service downstairs. All the drinks and food went down well with us and the kids. Our family of five had a fantastic stay: the rooms were spacious and clean, everything was nicely decorated, and the kitchen was well stocked. Thank you!

The interior is charming, and they made a nice attempt at a living-room feel. But the place was full, and one hostess couldn't serve everyone at a decent pace. We waited a long time for the rather pricey duck parmentier, which gave us awful heartburn. The escargots clearly weren't homemade. For me, the interior gets 5 stars, while the food and service each get 2.
