I cycled past a beautiful castle hotel and thought I’d remember it as somewhere to stay on my next vacation. Instead, I’ll remember it as the place where the manager chased me away as soon as I stepped through the gate. A very unpleasant experience.

We visited for afternoon tea in May 2019 and sat out on the sunny terrace. The chateau’s owner served us. The basic €3 tea or coffee is very reasonable for the lovely atmosphere and idyllic rural setting. For €6, I suggest choosing the 'thé gourmand', which adds a worthwhile extra and is good value.

A quiet, lovely spot 2kms outside Azay le Rideau. Afternoon tea is great value at €3-€6 and well worth a visit. May 2019.

Beautiful rooms in a very elegant house, and the host was really nice.
