The state of the flat was a huge disappointment. It was terribly dirty, as shown in the photos and videos, and very uncomfortable to stay in. There were no bed sheets or towels either. Booking through Booking.com didn't make clear that these basics weren't included. We eventually found out we could rent them from "Les Clefs du Tourmalet" for an extra charge on top of the apartment price. That should be clearly stated in the advert, or the cost should be included. The whole building felt like an old car park converted into accommodation, with fake floors. Overall, the flat was in bad shape and missing basic necessities.

We came to la Mongie and stopped by this block out of curiosity. The smell inside was horrendous, like death, and it seemed as if the place hadn't been cleaned in 50 years. The dark corridors had badly painted doors, and the lifts were covered in graffiti. It felt like somewhere out of a nightmare, and who knows what's behind the doors. Such an ugly, dreary building in the middle of all that beauty.

The balconies and terraces on the top 16 floors have breathtaking views. The residence sits right by the slopes, in an extension of the village of La Mongie. It's about 1 km from the lively center, and during winter there's a free shuttle that takes you between the floors so you don't have to walk.

We came for a few days of skiing, and having the slopes right there more than makes up for the building needing an update and the rather run-down parking lot. If skiing is your main plan, like it was for us, it's more than enough.
