Hotel Jade

The staff were trying hard to make the stay more pleasant, and I appreciated that. Still, my room at Hotel Jade felt tiny, like a box. I haven’t stayed in a room that small for quite a while, and for this price range I think you can do better. There isn’t much variety at breakfast. You’re stuck with the same couple of items for your whole stay, which wasn’t appealing.

The room is cleaned daily, and it was very comfortable for a fair price. Don’t expect much at breakfast, just a croissant, some bread, and a cup of coffee. You can arrive as late as you like because reception is staffed around the clock.

The location is nowhere near Paris or the attractions, so be prepared to spend a ton on transportation if you’re here for sightseeing. We stayed three nights, and it didn’t feel worth what we paid. There was debris all over the walk to our room because renovations were underway, and the place was so dirty it was hard to get around. The room was a decent size, but about half the things in it were falling apart. The drain didn’t work, so we had to take quick showers to keep water from spreading. There was no air conditioning or window screens, and bugs ate us alive while we slept. It was hot outside, in the upper 80s, so we couldn’t sleep with the windows shut. Rowdy men smoked and shouted on the patio all night. My cousin and I are both allergic to cigarette smoke, and we woke up feeling awful each morning. The sink water also made us very sick, which put a real damper on our plans.

Booked on a whim, and I was positively surprised. The room was quite large and very clean. The neighborhood is pretty nice, it’s affordable, and it’s not too far from the center. Reception was friendly and bilingual, and booking online was easy. I didn’t try or book breakfast, so I can’t comment on it. I’d book again.
