Le Clos Joli

We had a fantastic stay in a lovely room, with a warm welcome from the very friendly owner. The setting was peaceful and quiet, and breakfast was perfect. We highly recommend it :)

We flew in by microlight, and the owners made sure we had a pleasant stay. They gave us a very warm welcome, the rooms had a superb view, and breakfast was generous.

The room and shared areas were clean, and the building itself is attractive. The neighborhood was quiet too. Still, I wouldn't recommend this place, and the value for money was poor. It's a shame, because it has charm and potential. We spent one Saturday night, April 20, 2019, in a standard room. "L'Auberge" is in a residential area up in the hills, about a 15-20 minute walk from the town center. The rustic look is a matter of taste. Our room was small, with a small mattress. The bathroom felt from another era, with just one cubicle, a manual soap dispenser instead of shower gel, worn towels, a broken towel rack we reported that was never fixed, and combined sheets and blankets. The garden was poorly kept, with rubble around, and an annex building under renovation. The welcome felt cold and impersonal, and the manager seemed jaded. Despite the many positive reviews, breakfast was disappointing: industrial orange juice, only one kind of bread, coffee served in bowls, stale brioche and butter cut into pieces. The jams were the only homemade item.

The welcome was warm and the stay pleasant, despite several things that were disappointing. We stayed five nights on half-board. Dinner was hearty, and the owner's dishes were excellent, though not traditional Normandy food. Breakfast was satisfactory, but the bread wasn't fresh. Our small room was superb, but the bathroom was narrow, the taps were covered in limescale, and the missing seals weren't cleaned properly. There was no ventilation, so odors lingered, and one sachet of shampoo for the whole stay felt a bit lacking. Drinks aren't included with dinner. The wine was excellent and well priced, but be careful: the owner offered us a bottle for two without mentioning the price and finished it during our first meal. When we asked about drink prices, he suggested buying a bottle for several meals. The next day, the wine had somehow disappeared. After we raised it with him again, we were surprised when he offered a bottle as compensation, so be careful.
