The hosts gave me helpful directions and ideas for things to do, and kept topping up breakfast until everyone was finished. They were attentive without getting in the way when I wanted quiet time. I spent the stay on my own with my books, and hired the hotel’s electric bike to visit family elsewhere on the island. The garden was shady and full of flowers, with umbrellas where I could linger over a generous breakfast brunch that kept me going all day. My bedroom windows looked out over it. The peaceful hotel has a pool, little pastel-pink cottage-style buildings and blue rooms with a nautical feel. The bathrooms were roomier than I expected, and really, everything exceeded what I’d pictured. I hope to come back with my husband next summer.

Everyone at the hotel was so kind and attentive, and we’d happily return. Our room was spacious and really comfortable, with lots of sweet little details around the hotel. Breakfast was very good too, and the care put into it showed.

The crepes suzettes show is worth catching, and they taste delicious. If you book a few days ahead, you can order fish cooked in salt, which sounds delicious. The setup is really nice, and the waiters are extremely welcoming.

The service fell short, and they never refilled our carafe of water. The wine was okay, though overpriced. I expected more after seeing the place in the Michelin guide, but found the restaurant pretentious and the food average. The house-label rillettes weren’t as good as the local ones sold at the market, and the main dishes didn’t stand out. There are much better restaurants in Sauzon.

What a lovely refuge in a storm. We booked just one night at the very last minute, then stayed for three, which says plenty. The people were charming, and nothing was too much trouble.
