La Grande Eperviere

We stayed for two nights just after Christmas, using the hotel as a base for skiing in Pra Loup. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The furnishings could use some updating, yet the people running the place more than made up for that. They were incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome. Our French was limited, but they patiently chatted with us and smiled through our attempts. They were happy to recommend places to eat, brought our bags up to the room, and even sat with us for a beer and a relaxed chat after skiing. Nothing seemed like too much trouble. I’d recommend it for a reasonably priced short ski stay.

The staff were super friendly, though I was surprised that people in such a touristy area still couldn't speak a word of English. Maybe that's just the French way of doing things. The room was cosy and clean, and the bathroom had a nice partial renovation, but the room felt dated and the mattress had clearly seen better days. For what you get, the hotel feels a bit too expensive.

The hosts were amazing, especially after we discovered our car trouble meant we had to stay another day. The hotel had no room left, so the host found us a place in the centre, drove us there, shared a coffee, and said it was fine to leave our car at his hotel. We were staying at la grande Eperviere after choosing the first hotel with availability, and were surprised in the best way. It’s set in a lovely garden, with nice little rooms, quite comfortable beds, and a good breakfast. The hosts were so friendly and obliging. I’d recommend it anytime.

A nice breakfast, free parking, and lovely rooms close to the centre.
