Chambres d'hôtes La Gourguille

Breakfast on the terrace each morning was a treat, especially Bruno’s special eggs. We also loved the dinner there, with delicious food and sunset views, and the picnic was lovely too. We stayed three nights in August at La Gourguille, greeted warmly by Bruno and Tamara, who showed us around the beautiful property. Our Canton Suite was stunning, full of art and interesting objects, very comfortable, and had great views south across the countryside and over the square opposite. The pool and gardens were a pleasure, with western views and plenty of sun. Bruno and Tamara were brilliant hosts, suggesting interesting places to visit and arranging reservations at good local restaurants. We had a fabulous stay and plan to return. The only downside was having to leave.

The rooms are spacious and sumptuous, with a quirky feel. Bruno and Tamara are gracious hosts, and the food was a highlight. Breakfasts were perfect, and Bruno, an excellent chef, made us a special dinner. Loved it!

The house is beautifully furnished and set in a lovely spot, and Bruno and Tamara make a real effort to help guests feel welcome. We stayed in the Canton suite, with its lavish antique Chinese furnishings, down to bathroom taps shaped like bamboo fountains. The Venetian suite is lovely too, though my favorite is the bright African suite, filled with fabrics and artifacts from the owners' time in Africa. In good weather, breakfast and other meals are served on the terrace, where the sun sets behind it for a lovely end to the day. You can also watch the sunset from the manicured garden or infinity pool. For a magical French holiday, La Gourguille is hard to beat.

We came to Barjac to see the Keifer Foundation and hadn't expected much beyond that. Then we were lucky enough to spend two days at Bruno and Tamara's place, one of the most pleasurable places we've stayed. They're lovely people and gracious hosts. Our room was so comfortable and spacious that relaxing and reading in it was a treat. The whole place is so tastefully furnished, it was hard to leave. And the food was delicious. Bruno is an inspired chef, and the memorable picnic lunch he made us one day is something we'll never forget. We can't wait to return.
