Camping Le Chene Du Lac

Traveling alone by bike worked well here, and the friendly service at the snack bar was the best I’ve come across in France so far. The “lake” was great, too. I didn’t make use of the garden with chickens, goats and rabbits, or the kayaks and inflatables on the water. With kids along, though, I can imagine those would make it a very different stay. A lovely site for families as well.

There’s a lot to do if you’re into games, a snack bar that we’re told opens tonight, and a big lake that looks swimmable, with some inflatables on it. We’ve only just arrived, and the location seems lovely, though the mower hasn’t stopped so far. This is the priciest site we’ve stayed at yet. I can see why in some ways, but in others I’m not sure. The toilets are still my main concern. They’re shared, with no seats or toilet paper, and there’s often urine where I’d need to sit. I find that really unpleasant, though maybe I’m fussy. The basins aren’t great either. There’s mould all along the back of the sink, which puts me off brushing my teeth or washing my face. I haven’t checked out the showers and don’t plan to use them. My partner, who’s male, is much more easygoing than me, so I’m sure he’ll be happy with everything. I’m told the owner is friendly and gave a warm welcome, though I haven’t met her. There’s a tent and visiting motor caravan area, a separate large section for static caravans, and some canvas tent-like things for hire. We haven’t decided whether to stay two nights yet. We’ll see.

The staff put so much effort into making this a great place for families, and there are loads of things for children to do. It has such a lovely atmosphere that I was sad to leave. If you need a campsite in the area, this is the BEST.

I was biking up to Paris at the end of August, when the campsite was quiet. It was lovely and peaceful, and the snack restaurant was great. It cost only 10 € per night. The people were very welcoming and happy to help or answer questions.
