Campanile Bayeux

This basic hotel near the memorial de Caen is clean and does the job. The beds and showers were comfortable, and the food was surprisingly good, though the choices were limited. It’s no-frills, so just know what you’re getting. I’d recommend it.

The restaurant was one of the best parts, with a plentiful breakfast buffet and lots of hot and cold choices. We also ate dinner there. Reception and the chamber staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We were pleasantly surprised by how convenient the hotel was for cyclists visiting Bayeux and the D-Day landing beaches. It’s about a 6-7 minute ride from the town centre, mostly flat and largely traffic-free. The area is quiet, and the compact, basic rooms are comfortable, with a decent shower, air-conditioning, and TV. There’s no lift, and access is via an external balcony.

The view of nature and the Bayeux cathedral was simply amazing. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, all you can eat, and the staff were kind and helpful. It’s a nice hotel near the city centre and not far from the railway station, making it a good base for walks around town and trips to the D-Day beaches. Our room was clean but a bit small and cold, though it was easy to heat. We were missing a metal spoon and some cups.

We used the hotel as a base for seeing Bayeux, the Normandy beaches, and the war graves. The restaurant was very good, and the staff were really nice and helpful. The only issue was our room: when we arrived, there were lots of flies on the table and windowsills. Things do get missed, and the young woman at reception was very embarrassed when I reported it. Would I stay again? Yes, of course. Everything else was good.
