The staff we encountered were genuinely sweet and helpful, though they seemed stretched thin, juggling a lot of tasks. I can see that keeping such a huge place going, with its style, decor, clean amenities, service, and labor costs, must be difficult and expensive for the owners, especially with limited revenue and constant overhead. BelleFontaine has plenty of room to improve as a premium castle hotel, but I hope travelers keep staying there so the owners and their family can care for it. At €160 a night, I don't think it's fair to expect the same result as a €350 stay. The mansion or castle and its park are gorgeous, with a lot of potential. There's a lot more I could say about possible improvements, and I'm happy to share recommendations if the owners contact me.

A spacious room and a very good breakfast menu made this a wonderful place to stay. It's also a handy base for exploring Normandy and the D-Day beaches: Omaha and Gold beaches, Pointe du Hoc, Longues sur Mer, and Mulberry B are all within a 25-minute drive.

We had a good breakfast, mainly cold foods, with a few hot choices like baked beans, bacon, and sometimes eggs. There's an elevator to reach the upper floors. The Chateau has an interesting past and was used by the Germans during the occupation. It's a distinctive place to stay near Bayeux, walkable to restaurants and the Cathedral, though outside the City Center. Our room was large enough for our suitcases, but had only a bathtub. The spray nozzle made it hard to keep water off the bathroom floor. Our friends' room did have a shower.

The grounds were peaceful, and it's also very close to the trains. I wish I'd had more time to explore. The people here were incredibly kind and helpful, I can't say enough about them. This is definitely where I'd stay.

We found it a good base for driving around to see the sights. The hotel sits in a beautiful spot on Bayeux's outskirts, and a car is a must. It clearly has some age to it. Our room didn't have AC, which was fine in the mild weather during our visit, but worth knowing. Breakfast was good. Staff worked hard, with one person handling the bar, reception, and other tasks as they came up, but things still went smoothly.
