Castel Bayeux Guesthouse

Le Castel guest house is an easy walk from the church, shops, and restaurants, and about ten minutes on foot from the train station. Our room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was tasty, with whole fruit, yogurt, bread, pastries, cheese, and coffee, tea, and juice. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner. We'd happily stay again and recommend it.

The apartment was spacious and comfortable, with a large bathroom, and the website descriptions matched what we found. Contactless check-in and check-out were easy. When we accidentally broke a lightbulb, the owner replaced it right away after we let them know, while we were out for dinner. We were very satisfied with our stay at Au Loup Apartments and would come back.

We spent three nights here with our young son, who had a comfortable rollaway bed for 25 euros a night. The rooms are spacious, and our private deck had a magnificent Cathedral view. We enjoyed it with some rather subpar French beer. Restaurants are an easy walk away. There is free parking diagonally across the street, plus a huge lot almost behind the hotel for a small fee if that one is full. The host speaks very good English, and breakfast was fabulous. The beds were comfortable but on the firm side. They had several allergy-free pillows in soft and firm options, extra blankets, and a lighter alternative to the down comforter. I like sleeping with a fan, and they had portable ones available. The shower was enclosed with great water pressure, the heated towel rack stayed on, and the room had a mini fridge and a large double sink with plenty of space for toiletries. The setting and breakfast would bring me back if I'm in the area again.

We booked for three adults and one child, and the apartment we were given had two rooms with double beds and one and a half bathrooms. That could have worked, except the second bedroom was in a plywood-finished attic loft reached by steep stairs with no railing. It felt unsafe, especially if someone needed the bathroom during the night. We had also asked for a double bed to be separated, since we needed at least three beds for four guests. The owner replied that an adult could sleep with a child and that people do “stranger things.” It wasn't worth the risk, so we found another hotel and will leave the rest to our travel insurance. This hotel actually consists of two properties. We first thought the second one was attached, but it's quite a hike away when a family is split between two places. The main hotel's “view” in the photos is really the view from the street. A large tree and other buildings block it. The rooms are very small too, though the photographer found flattering angles. The woman checking guests in was nice, and I felt bad that she was caught in the middle, but the owner was rude and unprofessional. There are several much nicer hotels nearby.
