Comfort Hotel Beaune

This is my regular stop when I’m heading to my place in the alps. It feels very French, with cheerful service, people who take pride in what they do, really good food, and prices that are hard to beat. There’s even a pool, and cheap fuel stations are close by, which makes it ideal for a night on the way. Some people grumble about the breakfast selection, but I’d choose a smaller spread of well-prepared local food over lots of mediocre American bacon. They even know their way around wine pairings for the cote de veau, all for travel lodge money. What more could you ask for?

This place is clean, tidy, and staffed by excellent people. There’s a huge wine list throughout the hotel, with bottles from regional and local wineries. It also welcomes pets, and children have their own play area. The quirky details are everywhere, from odd cutlery to unusual lampshades, with reclaimed and restored items and support for local artisans and products. It’s a fun hotel with something for different tastes, though it won’t suit someone after a polished, mainstream upscale stay. If you’re in the mood for a laugh or a bit of amusement, this could be the place.

I stopped to charge the car and came in to use some of the facilities. The staff were super friendly, and their English was so good it made my French look bad. Definitely worth booking for a stopover.

It’s nice to find a hotel that feels personal and real, especially with so many places feeling anonymous and corporate. The decor is playful, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the location is about as convenient as it gets. The food is fresh, local, and delicious, and the staff are consistently friendly and helpful.
