Hotel Athanor

For a hotel in the heart of Beaune, this is a good deal. I was puzzled by reviews mentioning no hot water or noise, since I ran into neither. There was a little mold in the shower corners, but it didn't bother me much. The staff were cheerful and helped me arrange taxis every day.

We’d definitely come back to this central, quirky hotel. It was comfortable, clean, reasonably priced, and had the character we liked. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s a local car park only about a four-minute walk away. Everything we needed for a pleasant Beaune stay.

The buffet breakfast was very good, with a full continental selection plus eggs, sausage, and bacon. Our room was lovely, if a little small, and the hotel’s position inside the old town made it easy to reach the main squares and sights. The staff were exceptionally helpful: when we called that morning to say we might not arrive before reception closed at 9pm, they made a note and tried calling us later to check on our arrival. We stayed one night in Beaune as a break on a long trip. It had been recommended as a beautiful little town, and it really was one of the loveliest medieval places we’ve visited, with a great choice of restaurants. The one beside the hotel was amazing. It’s a three-star hotel, but for us the experience was five-star.

We spent a couple of nights here during Beaune’s Wine and Food festival, and the staff let us into a room before the usual check-in time so we could get out and enjoy it. The room was comfortable and looked out over the town square. Right in the center beside the main church, the hotel put us close to all the festival activity. We didn’t use the bar or play pool, but liked having those options, and breakfast was convenient too.
