Breakfast and dinner in the dining room were a real pleasure, with doors opening onto the stone-walled garden and vineyard. In the early morning and at dusk, the sun stretches across the vines. We were staying right among them, and in early September the pickers' morning chatter carried up to us and got us out of bed to make coffee, fry eggs, and slice cheese. The garden and heated pool also make it easy to spend a whole day relaxing there, before heading into town in the evening to see the lights. The house itself is beautiful, set in idyllic grounds, and the slightly quirky interior has two bedrooms upstairs. The larger master bedroom connects to a lavish bathroom. The other bedroom has vineyard views from its windows and balcony, but its bathroom is tiny and has only a shower and sink, with no toilet. There's another toilet downstairs. The stairs may be tricky for young children or older people. Downstairs there's a large dining room, a functional, fun little kitchen, and a living room for relaxing. The views are magnificent, though the hill back to the house means a climb along a dark country road at night. Some evenings we drove up and parked on the edge of town; other nights we walked and found the climb invigorating. We had an outstanding, memorable stay and got to experience local life from the inside. We highly recommend it. For dinner, Restaurant le bon accueil is a short walk up the hill, and Cave Medeleine in town were two of our favorite food and dining experiences.
