Vacances Haut-Verdon

For 140€ a night, I got a very old apartment with a musty smell. The hot water took an hour to come on because the boiler wasn’t running when I arrived. I hit the cupboard door while getting a duvet, and the pillow was so damp I had to dry it before using it. Some of the outlets didn’t work, and neither did the TV. You have to force the door shut, which makes you worry it might break. With so many portable heaters around, I’d guess this place would be very hard to keep warm in winter. Two days earlier, I’d stayed in a four-star hotel in Salon de Provence for the same price, breakfast included. Frankly, this feels like a rip-off.

I’m including the invoice because it shows the unwelcome charges a traveler can run into here. The room was basic for two people and cost 340 euros a night, then sheets, towels, water and electricity added another 100 euros compared with the price shown on rental sites. That’s no way to treat customers.

Heating the place is difficult, and the price feels too high for what you get. It’s two bedrooms and a bathroom, with no kitchen, just appliances in a hallway.

The apartment was dirty. Don’t look under the beds, it’s frightening. Electricity costs extra, and because nobody had rented it before us, the heating was running full blast.
