Our host was kind and breakfast was generous, but we gave the stay only two stars because the room had so many insects. There were cobwebs all around, and a huge spider was right on one of the beds. We know insects are common in the countryside, but the room should still be spotless. We live in and host guests in an old house ourselves, and this has never happened to us. We can only guess the room was cleaned days before we arrived and wasn't checked again when our booking came in; all those webs also suggest there were plenty of spiders. My wife has arachnophobia, so we ended up sleeping in our camper. It was too late to move rooms, and we no longer trusted the place. We'd been traveling for weeks in the camper and picked this place for its ample RV parking because we wanted a comfortable evening in a nice room. The stay didn't go as planned. The owner apologized when we reported it in the morning, but that wasn't enough. Since we host guests too, we would have refunded half the room cost because it went unused.

The gîte was easy to reach, with lots of secure parking behind an automatic gate. It’s only 20 minutes from the Dieppe ferry, with 24/24 fuel in the village and a great farm shop a minute away. The main road to Rouen is a short drive, and connects quickly to routes north and south. We’d stayed in the guest house before, so Les Jacquemarts Normands was our first choice for five days. This time we were the first guests in their new gîte, above the TOUTLIN linen boutique next to the main house. It’s a lovely conversion of a huge Norman roof space, modern and beautifully decorated with well chosen colors and plenty of linen. There’s one double bedroom and a very large lounge with windows on three sides and lovely countryside views. We caught some amazing sunsets too. The kitchen is well fitted and we used it a lot. My teenage daughter slept on the luxurious double sofa bed in the lounge, and we even put the washing machine to work, so we really made use of the place. Guests can also use a big covered sun lounge next door, with a coffee machine. Fred and Benoît are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. And if you want to buy linen products, this is a perfect place to stay.

We chose Les Jacquemarts because it’s close to the Dieppe ferry, and it turned out to be a perfect choice. The room was pristine and seemed recently refurbished, with a very comfortable bed, top quality linen, lovely bathroom fittings, and a great shower. Breakfast was filling and delicious, and the owner was pleasant and helpful. Nothing to fault. Nearby Totes has various amenities and a large supermarket.

The breakfast had a tasty range of local produce. It’s a lovely little hotel, handy for Dieppe and about two and a half hours from Calais. Very comfortable too, with superb towels and bed linen supplied by the owners’ other business, www.toutlin.fr.

The full linen bedding was a lovely surprise. I’d never experienced that before, but I’m a convert now! We stayed the night before taking the ferry from Dieppe, and the location was just right for a stop on arrival in France or before leaving by ferry. It’s in a lovely village surrounded by farmland, and the house and hosts were lovely too.
