Les Chênes

A welcoming guesthouse with friendly owners, just a short drive from the beaches. Really nice.

It may be a beautiful place, but it feels like it's reserved for a select few. I called at 9:20 PM to book a room for my family, and the person I spoke with was pleasant. They asked me to email my contact details so they could make the reservation. After I told my wife and drafted the message, I was stunned to hear that someone who called after me had already booked the room we wanted. They said that reservation had come through Booking.com. Why ask me to call in the first place?

The garden was cared for, but the untidy parking area is the first thing you see when you arrive and sets a poor tone. The house is on a main road. Inside, the whole ground floor smelled awful, possibly of cat litter, especially the entrance hall. Cleanliness was poor too: dusty bedrooms, an uncleaned shower cubicle, and very worn bathroom and toilet fixtures. The welcome was fine, but the house felt dated and I saw no sign of efforts to freshen it up. For the price of a night's stay, I expected better, and there is room for improvement. It's a shame, since the building has history and potential. How can the tourist office recommend somewhere like this? We have no intention of coming back.

The owner was friendly, and the room was nice with a decent breakfast. But the toilet is out on the landing, and the bathroom was practically unsanitary. Such a shame.
