Domaine à Marmande

The beds were wonderfully comfortable and extra long, and the house itself was old and lovely. We found this a relaxing break during our two-month trip around France. Our hosts were welcoming and helped us plan places to see. Breakfast was beautifully laid out, with fresh bread, homemade yogurt and jams, freshly squeezed orange juice, and more. It’s a good choice if you want something different from a town hotel, while still being just five minutes from the charming village of Mirande in the Gers region.

The gardens gave us a lovely place to sit and read, and the pool was very well cared for and a real treat in the heat. Caroline and Charles were incredibly helpful throughout our stay at Marmande. When our flights were delayed, they gave us lifts to the wedding we were attending. They also offered to pick up fresh bread each morning from the delicious local bakery and pointed us toward interesting places, with maps and leaflets to help. Our accommodation was attractive, clean, spacious, and had everything we needed.

We’ve stayed twice and would happily return. Caroline and Charles are warm, lovely people, and the attention to detail made it feel like a home away from home. The studio is beautifully equipped for a few days or even a few weeks; if you need more space, the gite sounds ideal, especially with its wood burner for cooler spring or autumn evenings. Breakfast on your own terrace is scrumptious, and there are cooking facilities if you’d rather make your own food. The pool is a welcome dip on sunny days. There’s everything you need here, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

We visited Domaine à Marmande in June, and the Gers was at its most charming. We took side trips to lovely villages, enjoyed exquisite dinners in Mirande, and went hiking and sightseeing. We even saw a double rainbow. Caroline and Charles’ warm welcome made the whole visit especially memorable.
