The hotel staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and our time there ended up being the highlight of our holiday in France. Bernay is lovely, with lots of great places to eat and everything an easy walk away. Hotel De Lion D'Or sits right on the main street, which worked perfectly for us. Our large top floor room looked out over the street and a green, tree covered hill at the edge of town. We were comfortable throughout and will book that same room when we return.

The private parking was a real plus, and breakfast was better than at some of the 3 star hotels we stayed in. The reception ladies were very friendly too. Our room in Bernay's old center was basic but clean. One small shower suggestion for room 29: shifting the wall so you enter from the right instead of the left could stop water splashing, and make getting in easier. For dinner, Chant d'ivresse was much more original and much better than the usual brasseries you find all over France.

We've been coming as a group each June on the way to Le Mans, and the town center location makes a great overnight stop. The newly refurbished rooms are pleasant and good value, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Just remember to get the door code if you'll be out past 10, or you won't be able to get back in.
