Cris N.
The grounds are idyllic, tucked between meadows and forest in the Périgord countryside, and the manor house is magnificent. It should have been a perfect escape. But after 15 years of traveling around the Périgord and staying in bed and breakfasts, we’ve never had this level of service, which falls far below what we’ve usually found in Dordogne. Our room was unfinished. There was no bathroom mirror, wardrobe, or hairdryer. The shower overflowed onto the floor, the ceiling had just one bare bulb, and the floor was dusty with bits of placo on it. For this kind of building and region, it was well below standard. At €110 a night, the breakfast the next day was shocking. The yogurt and honey were the cheapest supermarket kind, the butter had been opened who knows when and was smeared all over its plate, and the jam jars were already open with no way to know who had put a spoon in them. Cheap cold cuts had been left on plates on the table since 8 a.m., with flies buzzing around and landing on them. The filter coffee was undrinkable and came in a stained, dirty cup, with cold milk on the side. And there was a bowl of fruit with rotten apples. This was before the awful breakfast that I messaged the organization managing the manor about the unfinished room. There’s no owner on site. They read my messages and only replied that the tradespeople were supposed to come finish the work. What a disgrace. If the place isn’t finished, they shouldn’t open it for rentals. With all the great food in the Périgord, how can they serve a breakfast that feels fit for a charity? I hope the owner, if there is one, sees this and realizes what kind of service they’re being charged for. This is unacceptable for the area. Otherwise, they should cut the price in half.
