Auberge Le Renard'eau

We waited more than two hours for the food, and the staff came across as very unprofessional. The meat was extremely dry, and the food quality overall was disappointing. It was Easter Monday and sunny, but despite the restaurant looking mostly empty, we were told the outdoor seating was full and had to sit inside. It was dark in there and the music was unpleasant. One of the worst restaurant experiences I’ve had. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The staff quickly brought out the food, and our server was great. She spoke English, which helped us. There was plenty of choice on the menu for our group of five adults and five children, and everyone enjoyed the food. We came for lunch to celebrate my mum’s birthday. The interior had a very French feel, and although there were steps, staff immediately offered to take my mum to our table through the kitchen because she has trouble walking. A fantastic meal and restaurant, thank you!

The room was spacious, with a mezzanine my son loved. It was a good price, about 70 euros for four people without breakfast. There was no AC and it got stuffy, but we could open the window fully and had a fan. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and the shower could have been cleaner. We stopped here on the way to the Ardeche. It was a handy distance from Rotterdam and close to the motorway, and the village is lovely for a walk. There are three restaurants and a pizzeria, but the pizzeria was closed when we visited, so don’t count on it. We ate at the hotel restaurant instead. I found the portions small and the food very average, though I do have a big appetite. The quaint hotel has parking opposite, beside the church. You get what you pay for, and this was much better than a motorway motel.

Our evening with a group of 34 was ruined. We had booked ahead and arrived at 7 pm, but waited over two and a half hours for our dishes. By 21:00 some people had decided they couldn’t wait any longer. The restaurant still made them pay for the meals they’d ordered and the glasses of wine brought to each diner. People who came in after us were served first. When we complained, we were told the kitchen was short staffed. The management was disgraceful and disrespectful. We didn’t enjoy the evening at all. I won’t return or recommend the place.
